| What
is a Galilean Church? |
A
Galilean church is not necessarily a church in the traditional sense,
it has no walls or man-made limitations. It is a body of
believers that believes the Word of God is not only infallible but also
is living and active through the Holy Spirit and acts out their faith.
Jesus has summed up our duties on earth as a Christian in Matthew
28:19-20, saying “Therefore go and make disciples of
all nations...” In defining a disciple we find that a
disciple is someone who is continuously learning and then applying what
they learn, going out, and teaching others what they have
learned. It says nothing about putting your dependency in a
pastor. A pastor is a shepherd and has his duties, but all Christians
have the duty to be Matthew 28:19-20. This is important in a
Galilean Church. The reliance is on God, not a man. A
Galilean Church is a place where the people do this.
It is extremely important that we worship corporately (with other
believers) as well as individually. The coming together as one
body to worship is important to us individually, as well as to glorify
our Lord and Savior as one body. Worship itself is an act of
sacrifice unto the Lord and has been a part of God since Abraham and
Isaac. (Gen 22:2) Today we are called to be a living sacrifice,
as a spiritual act of worship. (Ro 12 :1)
The meeting together should take place wherever God leads, whether in a
home, a hillside, or a building. This is not a fresh
and new concept of
church. Jesus and His disciples did this very thing.
Teaching in synagogues, homes, on a hill side, or on the Sea of
Galilee, the people would gather wherever they could to hear the Word
of God taught, and encouraged to apply the Word to their lives.
Not worrying about what sect each was. Nothing has changed or is
different between then and now. God desires for us to gather and
learn in much the same way. We still need the true word of God,
we still have those who expect everyone else to teach and to do the
work we have all been called to do and today we have those who feel the
need to separate into separate groups. It is God's desire that we
unite as one body, not many separate bodies. The man made
“religious” rules have separated the body of Christ. Just like
when Jesus came and spoke to the people of that day, the religious
leaders burdened the people down with so many “rules” that it kept them
from hearing the true voice of God. This same thing happens
today. If we are not learning and growing by spending time with
our Lord and other true believers and studying His Word, then we
also can be burdened
by “religious rules” that weigh us down to the point that we can’t hear
or see God.
The Galilean Church is not
“another denomination” or another “non-denomination." It is more
of a concept of what God is desiring of us to be as a body of Christ.
When we gather together to worship we need to recognize that we are
doing it for God, not ourselves, and we are not to be focusing on our
likes and dislikes--only God’s likes and dislikes.
The Galilean Pastors web site has made available study guides from
previous bible studies in other groups. The “church” may use them
or begin an application, topical or a book of the Bible study, with the
Holy Spirit being the guide for the content and time frame.
If you feel a need in your life to be part of a church like this,
contact us and we will direct you as to where to find one. Or, if
one is not available in your area, we would love to speak with you
regarding getting a Galilean church going
in your area. If you are looking to start a Galilean church, you
can begin by praying as well as gathering as many prayer partners as
possible. Please seek the Lord earnestly for His will and
timing. Then start a bible study. Let the Lord be
your leader. Hold each other accountable as you learn and grow in
the Lord. Reach out to others and lead them to the Lord.
Bring them into your study to help them to grow. As you do this,
you will see the Lord lead you in ways you never
imagined. If your study gets too large start another
study. God will always rise up a leader among the group. It
is okay and good for the people to be from different churches in the
area. As they grow and see how God intends for Christians to act
they will take it to their church and see their church
grow.
It is our desire to serve Christ through the gathering of believers
that honor Him. It is our will to do only God’s desire and to
honor Him in all we do. This should also be the desire of all
Galilean Churches.
We would love to
visit with you about starting a Bible study in your area. Please
contact us with any questions or any prayer needs.
